As a Dubai baby photographer, I’m often being asked what age gap is the best fo baby photography. While the recommended age gap is first 14 days, I always advise to aim for the session to happen first 5-10 days of the baby. The reason behind it is that newborns still presume womb like behavior and sleep through the sessions, making newborn sessions content and relaxed and those adorable poses you see to my pages, possible. Did you know that in fact newborn babies are born with nearly 300 ‘bones’, while a full-grown adult has a measly 206. A newborn really has nearly 300 bones & cartilage pieces, which after that 2 weeks mark, start to fuse together into calcified bone, which makes it much harder for them to return to that in-the-womb position they’ve been in for the last 9 months. It is much more comfortable for them to be moulded into the adorable position while they still have the luxury of pure flexibility.
On the opposite side, having your newborn session as soon as you are out of the hospital is not such a good idea as your feeding routine is still being settled. I’ve worked with younger babies – as young 2-3 days old and galleries are adorable, but it took us twice the time due to constant feeding breaks as milk has not yet properly settled and collqustrum was not enough for the baby. As an experienced Dubai baby photographer, I would strongly recommend waiting till 5 day milestone, especially for breastfeeding mums, to allow yourselves get into the feeding routine and settle a little bit with all the changes that come along with your bundle.
During sessions we take time and make as many feeding breaks as baby requires. There is never any rush when it comes to newborn photography.
Taking into account very narrow window of opportunity for posed Dubai baby photography, I strongly advise booking your newborn sessions during second or third trimester.
